BRAINSTORMING (30 min)

Strategic Non-Cooperation to Fight Authoritarianism
INTRODUCTION YOUR ACTIONS? AUTHORITARIANISM
NONCOOPERATION BRAINSTORMING CLOSING

Google Meet Session B

(15 min) What pillars am I part of?‬

  • How are those pillars upholding the regime?‬
  • In those pillars, what kind of defiance is already happening and what could‬ ‭more look like?‬
  • Who are key decision-makers in those pillars who we could influence,‬ ‭pressure, or persuade to support more noncooperation?‬

Think of anyone in your circle who has already been risking and‬ ‭noncooperating.

Think of anyone in your circle who may be given orders that they‬ ‭might have to defy or not cooperate with.

(10 min) Who do you know that’s already doing subtle or quiet defiance?‬

  • Where could you imagine defiance in your workplace, congregation, union, school?‬
  • Who in your life could take action if they were nudged or supported?‬
  • Who might you have already given up on, but maybe as things deteriorate they‬ ‭might reconsider?‬

(5 min) If you came up with at least one or two people, think about a plan for how you’ll reach out to‬ ‭them, or as many of those people as you can, to encourage them, such as:

  • Writing a note to them, starting a conversation or sending a message of support or encouragement.
  • You can say,‬ ‭thanks for noncooperating.
  • Or, I’ve got your back if you choose to in the future.
  • Or, I’d be‬ ‭happy to talk to you in the future if you get asked to do things against your morals—we got‬ ‭you.
  • This can be in any format: a letter or text message, or a direct conversation.
